May 2025 was one for the books—literally and musically. We had the pleasure of witnessing the launch of a children’s book, inspired by the captivating story of Tunde Onakoya at Ouida, Opebi. It turned out to be one of those moments that makes you believe that the universe rewards the good guys.
Whilst waiting for the event to start, we shared a meaningful conversation in the Green Room. Tunde told us about his past with music—being in a band, learning guitar on his own, and how he studied the rhythm and tonality of the Yoruba language through the talking drum. He’s not just a chess champion—he’s also a brilliant storyteller.
Later that evening, we hit the stage and entertained the audience with some of our original songs (always a thrill), and to wrap up the night, we invited Tunde onstage to perform his favourite song with us.
Funny backstory: about four years ago, at the old Ouida location, Tunde walked up to us, super polite and asked to borrow one of our guitars for his performance. We handed it over, and even though he was struggling with crutches, he delivered a spirited performance.
Back to this evening, Tunde Onakoya got on stage and again borrowed one of our acoustic guitars and performed I Lived by One Republic. The room held its breath, and for us this moment symbolized a spiral of fate that’ll forever be locked in our memories.
Big thanks to everyone who came out. And to Tunde—you can use our guitars anytime.
Love,
